What is DNS Lookup?
DNS Lookup is the process of finding DNS records associated with a domain name. Every time you visit a website, your browser automatically performs a DNS Lookup to translate the domain (e.g. google.com) into an IP address. With our tool you can view these records directly.
Types of DNS Records
A Maps the domain to an IPv4 address
AAAA Maps the domain to an IPv6 address
MX Defines mail servers for the domain
NS Defines the nameservers for the domain
CNAME Alias - points to another domain
TXT Text records for verification and SPF/DKIM
SOA DNS zone management information
CAA Defines which CAs can issue SSL certificates
When to use DNS Lookup?
- • When you want to check if a domain's DNS records are correctly configured
- • When transferring a domain and want to verify propagation
- • When having email issues and want to check MX records
- • When you want to verify SPF, DKIM or DMARC records for email security
- • When investigating potential DNS issues on a domain
