VPN Check
Detects whether your connection goes through a VPN, proxy or Tor - using 4 independent signals.
How does the VPN check work?
The VPN Check analyzes 4 independent signals to estimate whether you are using a VPN. No single signal is conclusive - the combination gives a more accurate result.
- 1. IP Intelligence: Checks whether your IP has been flagged as a VPN, proxy, Tor exit node or datacenter IP in continuously updated databases.
- 2. Reverse DNS (rDNS): Analyzes the hostname associated with your IP. Most VPN providers have recognizable hostnames (e.g.
vpn.nordvpn.com,mullvad.net). - 3. Timezone mismatch: Compares your browser timezone with the expected timezone for your IP's country. If you're connected to a VPN server in another country, they won't match.
- 4. Browser language: If your browser is set to a language different from the one expected for your IP's country, this may indicate a VPN connection.
Note: Results are probability-based estimates - not 100% guaranteed. The confidence score reflects signal strength, not certainty.
