DNS Propagation Check

Check in real-time if your DNS changes have propagated across 38 servers worldwide.

Record Type

What is DNS Propagation?

DNS Propagation is the process by which changes to a domain's DNS records spread across all DNS servers worldwide. When you change a domain's IP address or modify other records, it doesn't become visible everywhere immediately - it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours.

Why does propagation take time?

Every DNS record has a TTL (Time To Live) - the time in seconds that DNS servers store the record in their cache. If the TTL is 3600 (1 hour), servers will keep the old value for up to one hour before requesting the updated one.

When to use this tool?

  • • After changing your domain's hosting or IP address
  • • When transferring a domain to a new provider and changing nameservers
  • • To confirm that new MX records for email have propagated
  • • To check if an SSL certificate can be issued (CAA records)
