What is an ASN?
Every ISP, company or organisation that operates an independent network gets a unique number: the Autonomous System Number (ASN). Networks use these numbers through the BGP protocol to exchange routing information with each other across the internet.
Where does the ASN data come from?
ASN data is fetched directly from the official RDAP APIs of the 5 Regional Internet Registries: ARIN (North America), RIPE NCC (Europe / Middle East), APNIC (Asia-Pacific), LACNIC (Latin America) and AFRINIC (Africa). The correct RIR is located automatically via the IANA RDAP Bootstrap Registry.
What is Reverse DNS (PTR)?
Reverse DNS converts an IP address to a domain name. It is used for email server verification, network troubleshooting and service identification. Not every IP address has a PTR record configured.
