What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a protocol for retrieving information about domain name registrations. It shows who owns a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, and which nameservers it uses.

RDAP - The modern WHOIS

We use RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the official successor to classic WHOIS. Data comes directly from authoritative registries (Verisign for .com, AFNIC for .fr, etc.) via the IANA bootstrap - no intermediaries, no rate limits.

Why is registrant info hidden?

Since GDPR (2018), most registrars hide the personal details of domain owners (name, email, phone). This applies especially to .com, .net, .org domains. Technical details (nameservers, registrar, dates) remain always visible.
